Eating from the Pantry

Our friends over at MoneySavingMom. com and LifeasMom.com came up with a wonderful idea...try and eat from your pantry/freezer stockpiles for the month of January.  This is a huge challenge for me as I usually go to the store at least twice a week.  I decided to give it a try and see how I do.  Everyone is to make their own rules to follow as each family has different needs.  My goals for this challenge are.....

#1  Take an inventory of my pantry, fridge and freezer.
#2  Make a menu plan based on what I have on hand. (breakfast, lunch and dinner)
#3  Purchase only dairy, baking and produce items from the store during the month of January.
#4  Spend $100 on groceries for the entire month. (Am I crazy??  Yes I am!)
#5  Post how much I spent at the store.

I guess it is time to start taking inventory.  Care to join me?

Clean Closet Pics!

Okay everyone, I am a SLACKER!!!  With the hustle and bustle of the holidays, I have neglected this blog.  I guess that may be a good New Years resolution for me.....Take time out for myself...doing things I enjoy! :)  So, I did finally clean my closet about a month or so ago and decided to post pics to prove it! Since my home lacks storage space, there are TONS of things in my closet, but at least it is organized!  What to organize next?

Homemade Playdough

Recipe for playdough......

2 cups of flour
1 cup of salt
4 tbl. of cream of tartar
1 package of unsweetened dry drink mix for scent  & color (Kool-Aid packet)
2 cups of warm water
2 tbl. of cooking oil

Stir above ingredients over medium heat until mixture pulls away fom sides of pan to form a ball.  Store in airtight container.

My kids Sunday school class had this recipe and I just loved it.  Have fun!

On A Mission..A Slow, Slow Mission!

So, instead of attempting my closet today, I decided to start small. (I have a test tonight for my Psych class, so I need to have time to study!)  I have gone through three kitchen cupboards, organized and got rid of tons of crap!  I failed to take before pics, but here are some of my after ones.

The first pic is of the kids madness.  With two kids going in and out of this cabinet all day long, it may not look like this for long.  One can hope!  I have separate containers for there coloring/educational activity books, crayons, markers, stamps, glue/scissors and all the art crafts/work they have done.

This second pic is of my spices/seasoning and coffee/ tea cabinet.  I tried to organize it as best as I could.  I love to cook so that stuff is on overload!

Lastly, here is a pic of our vitamin/medicine stuff.  By the looks of the top shelf, I need to stop buying band-aids.  :)
Yeah, I am on my way to an organized kitchen.....Only 7 more cupboards and 10 more drawers to go!

Okay, I can't believe I am about to do this but here it goes. As I mentioned in my initial post, I NEED to organize my closet!!! I go through my closet every few months and get organized but then it ends up looking like this before I know it....

Scary huh???  So, it's that time again!!!  Time to dive in and spend a waste of a day cleaning it out for the millionth time!  Hopefully this time I will keep it clean.  I can....I can.....I will......I will!

Okay, here it goes!!

Well, I have finally decided to do it!   I have wanted to for a very long time, but have kept making excuses as to why I can't.  Drum roll please......I have joined the world of BLOGGING!  I know that this doesn't seem like a big deal, but for me it is huge.  You see, I have been interested in reading everyone elses blogs for quite some time and never wanted to set aside the time to have one myself.  My husband, God bless him, has kept telling me, "You should do it.  You love to write so this would be perfect for you."  Uh huh, I thought.  So, will you start doing some laundry, dishes, cooking and take care of the kids so I can squeeze this in to my already jam packed day?  Didn't think so!  So, here I am. A stay at home mother to five year old twins looking to add something to my already hectic life.  (Oh yea, I am taking college courses online and teaching the kids to get them ready for school next year.)

I am looking at this adventure as a help aid for me.  From organization to cooking, grocery shopping postings to just plain venting, this may be just what I needed all along.

Prior to being a mom, I was organized!  I am sure I am not alone in this.  Everything had its place and I had all the time in the world to make sure it stayed that way.  Fast forward five years.....I now have no idea where my darn car keys are!  My closet looks like a huricane just passed through and all of my kitchen drawers are stuffed with papers that I NEED!  The funny thing is, I have no clue what is even in those drawers.  Blogging  is just what may help me get back on track.  Maybe if I post pictures of my lack of organization, I will be so humiliated that I it motivates me to organize so I can post "after" photos. (Or maybe it will just humiliate me)

I am hoping that this will be fun for you as well as helpful!  It may not be pretty, but together we can get organized!
